Planning for pregnancy

If you are planning to become pregnant, either naturally or through treatment, there are steps you can take to give yourself the best chance of a successful outcome and a healthy baby. Check out our blog posts on improving your sperm count and improving your chances of pregnancy for more information.

Investigations at NUH Life

At the start of your journey, we’ll offer various tests and investigations that are all about trying to find the reason for any fertility issues you might have, and/ or finding the best treatment for you.

Investigations we provide at NUH Life include:

Semen analysis and sperm banking

Blood tests, including AMH

Ultrasound scans

Saline sonography

Tubal patency tests

Treatments at NUH Life

Once we have the results of your investigations, we can make a plan for treatment. Treatments we offer at NUH Life are:

Ovulation induction (OI)

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) – using partner sperm

Donor insemination (DI) – using donor sperm

Treatments available elsewhere

IVF/ ICSI, egg donation and egg freezing are not available at NUH Life. If you require one of these treatments, we will support you to find the treatment clinic that’s right for you.

Self-funded treatment versus NHS-funded

Unfortunately NHS funding for fertility treatment is quite limited, and many patients find they have to pay for their treatment because they do not meet the NHS criteria.

At NUH Life we provide both NHS-funded treatments and self-funded treatments to the exact same high standards.

See our NHS-funding and self-funding pages for more information on both options.
